Understanding Percent
|
|
|
To figure percent, move the decimal point two places to
the left and multiply by that number. Example: Your buck should be fed supplement at 0.25% of
his body weight (200 lb) per day. Take 0.25 % and move the decimal two places to the
left. Now it is 0.0025. Multiply that times 200 lb. 0.0025 x 200 = 0.5 or half a pound. You should feed half a pound of supplement every day.

Understanding the pH
scale, measuring acidity (acid) and alkalinity (base)
|
|
Looking at the pH scale above, you can see that 1 is the strongest acid, and 6 is the weakest acid. 14 is the strongest base, and 8 is the weakest base. A one number change means the solution is ten times weaker
or stronger than the previous measure Acid: a compound with a positive or negative charge, that
breaks apart in water to form a hydrogen ion (H+). The more H+ the stronger the acid. Solutions containing acids are called
“acidic” solutions. Acids are sour,
react strongly with metals, are very dangerous and can burn your skin.
Examples of acids: vinegar, citrus fruits, stomach acid An easy way to remember this is that acid begins with A,
base begins with B. A is before B in
the alphabet and the acid-base scale is in the same order as the alphabet, so
the lower the numbers are acidic and the higher numbers are basic. 7 is neutral. |
